THE MIRRORS - Dark Glasses 7'' 1978

Last post in 2017 and there is something new from the Wanted list and it's the second single by the Mirrors, a short-lived combo from South Wales, and on these recordings involved: Gary (vocals + rhythm guitar), Alan (bass), Bree (lead guitar) and Trevor (drums), released by the small London-based label Lightning Records. On the a-side we enjoy a lumbering four minute piece who monotonous pulls its laps and I can permanent listen to this fuckin' rhythm. They play exactly the drive as I love it, sure for some boring and uninspired but this soft bluesy melody listen I seldom and the four gentlemen do it very well. On the flip-side is a pleasant 2:30 mid-tempo KBD powerpop/punk goodie which rounding the record out. On compilations not often represented but Cure For Cancer was taken for the Young Raw Sounds UK #1 (Zeus Records, 1997) record, only bands/songs from Lightning releases and highly recommended. Enjoy or endure the music!

I wish you all a nice New Year's Eve and thanks to all who helped me this year, sent good music, gave some comments and we face the 2018 challenge!

V/A - Young Raw Sounds UK 1996

Lightning Records carved their name into punk history with the release of some of the most collectable punk singles to be released in the late 70's. And all these recordings here are quite special and for my taste there are no dropouts. This LP is subtitled as Vol.1 but i'd never seen Vol.2...hmmm.... maybe you have this comp and send me a copie??? Zeus Records put this pearl out in 1996 and they make this fine. To every band/song is much info inside and the vinyl was pressed in bold red in a limited edition of 1500 copies. What more can be said? You might know the bands as well and if not then you should waste no time to discover something new. I think it's always nice when some people rummage in the punk archives to find rarities or cool stuff and then releasing records like these. And then you might notice what a great time that was.

V/A - Raw Deal! 1977

Still in a good mood this morning I continue with this cute black round nice one early UK punk stuff on Raw Records: "Twelve "Punk" tracks pressed from the Raw Tapes recorded in the last year. All bar one previously unissued. Recorded at Spaceward Studios, except track A4 recorded live. Produced for "Wall of Noise" Productions. Dedicated to all small labels, who are in it for the fun and glory, not just for the money." Fantastic kbd sounds without failure, twelve songs in twenty-eight minutes. Punk77 says: "Barring the first Roxy live album this compilation just reeks of Punk rock snottiness, teen angst dreams and burning bright bands caught in an explosion of rawness and innocence before the business and new trends changed or killed them off. No band here made more than 2 singles; in fact only two of them even made singles!...."
